Candice is a celebration of sweetness, delight, and the freedom to embrace joy without hesitation. Crowned with sculptural cupcakes and showered in colorful sprinkles, she transforms familiar desserts into symbols of happiness, imagination, and abundance. Her radiant smile invites viewers into a world where playfulness is celebrated and joy is something worth savoring.
Derived from the word candy, her name reflects the heart of the piece. Candice reminds us that sweetness can be found not only in what we taste, but in the way we choose to experience life and share it with others.
Created as part of The Sweet Shoppe, a transformational collection in my artistic practice, Candice represents a period of experimentation and creative expansion. This body of work introduced new ideas, playful symbolism, and unexpected materials that pushed my practice in a new direction. By blending sculptural elements with portraiture, The Sweet Shoppe opened the door to a more imaginative way of telling stories through Black women, joy, and celebration.
